Welcome to The Deal, OCTOBER 2019
The 31st is looming! We are over three years down the line and at the time of writing it is no clearer as to whether or not the United Kingdom will be leaving the European Union with a deal or no deal on the 31st October. We are also told that an extension may be requested by the Prime Minister at the Eleventh Hour.
Whatever the outcome, the whole episode is becoming a matter of immense frustration as businesses try to predict the possible outcomes, particularly those involved with trade throughout Europe. Being very much at the coal face in respect of commercial property, it has been interesting to hear the differing views of businesses, many of whom are frustrated with the lack of leadership from Westminster. Many businesses we have encountered have made provision for Brexit, whilst others are still convinced there will be an early general election followed by a second referendum. Even the experts cannot predict the consequences of any given outcome and not a day goes by without an invitation to a “Prepare for Brexit” seminar.
Amidst all this confusion it is heartening to see on a day to day basis companies throughout the region are continuing to experience growth and prosper, despite the lack of certainty within the economic climate.
There has been a running commentary within the media as to what will happen, but businesses in the Lancashire region are well equipped to deal with whatever outcome there may be for Brexit and this should be applauded.

It is possibly a somewhat laboured point but we are continuing to experience an unfulfilled demand for secondary industrial warehousing units throughout the region. Planning For Housing
It is widely acknowledged that the government’s targets for the supply of housing across the UK are behind their own projections. Originally back in 2014 they identified 300,000 new and affordable houses per annum were required in England. Current estimates show a shortfall of at least 10% based upon the Office of National Statistics’ population projections.
