CRANES AND STEEL FRAMES
The sight of new commercial buildings being erected across the area is a sure sign that the commercial property market is picking up and that there is confidence in the future.
Over the last twelve months or so we have seen cranes and steel frames start to appear as a number of new structures come out of the ground around East Lancashire and North Manchester. In Blackburn Town Centre there is the impressive Cathedral Quarter office development where the hoardings have recently been removed to reveal an exciting fascade. The steel frames of the new Blackburn and Accrington Bus Stations give a glimpse as to what can be expected of these facilities.
Whilst the Cathedral Quarter and Bus Station developments have involved public sector backing, the groundworks and steel frame at Burnley Bridge for the new 543,620 sq. ft. industrial building for Exertis clearly indicates that the private sector is ready to invest again, and that the industrial property market is on the rise. There are further developments underway at Greenbank and Frontier and although not on the same scale, they do confirm the trend.
New commercial building is good for the area, not only in the jobs that it creates but also as a sign of the confidence being shown by major companies in the economy and in the local area. This, in turn, inspires further confidence and should encourage further development.
The completion of new buildings and subsequent relocations will also free up some existing buildings, allowing companies to relocate into premises more suitable for their modern requirements and, as we know, company relocations can benefit many surrounding local businesses including printers, office furniture suppliers, floor covering companies and the like. All good news for the local towns.
